Memorializing the life of Charles Smith II, Detective Corporal of the Beckley Police Department and dedicated public servant.

Whereas, Charles Smith II was born July 5, 1977, in Beckley, Raleigh County, the son of Charles Smith and Sonya Meadows Smith; and
Whereas, Charles Smith II graduated from Independence High School in 1995, where he excelled in wrestling, and later became the head wrestling coach at Woodrow Wilson High School and assistant wrestling coach at Park Junior High School; and
Whereas, Charles Smith II also excelled in amateur golf, winning the 2004 Club Championship at Grandview Country Club; and
Whereas, Charles Smith II was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served a tour of duty in Japan; and
Whereas, Charles Smith II was a proud member of the Beckley Police Department for more than five years where he rose to the rank of detective corporal in the narcotics unit; and
Whereas, Charles Smith II was married to his beloved wife, Britney, with whom he shared the joy of having a daughter, Taylor; and
Whereas, Sadly, Detective Corporal Charles Smith II was killed in the line of duty on Tuesday, August 29, 2006; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby memorializes the life of Charles Smith II, Detective Corporal of the Beckley Police Department and dedicated public servant; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate extends its sincere sympathy at the passing of Charles Smith II; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the family of the late Charles Smith II.
